The Lone Runner

Tonight was the first time since starting the Couch 2 5k Program that M couldn't run with me. With our race looming in the not so distant future, I decided to go alone.

This is what I learned:

1. I can self motivate. The last 2 minutes of the 2nd 8 minute interval were going up the biggest hill. I didn't quit. I don't think I even slowed down. I practiced positive self-talk (cheesy, I know!), but I think it actually worked!

2. It is hard to carry my own water bottle. I had to keep switching hands to "even it out!" Also, when my boobs started aching unexceptionably, it was not easy to "hold" them and the water bottle. I must have been a sight to see!

3. My neighborhood has a lot of trees and scary noises. I definitely feel safer with M next to me!

4. I have an internal stopwatch set for 1 minute. Whenever I checked the stopwatch to see how long I had to go, it was always at the minute mark. Strange!

Anyway, I am now confident to run alone. Next time I will try to run in the daylight, though!

Good for you! I hope to run a 5k at some point. I should look into the couch to 5k program. I've heard good things about it.
